Motor vehicle accidents increase during the holidays

The holiday season is in full swing, and that means that people are travelling to visit friends and family. Many will travel by car, which increases the likelihood of people becoming involved in motor vehicle accidents. A recent car crash in New York involved a woman travelling from Vermont.

A young woman from Vermont was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt north on route 9G. Another vehicle, a 1997 Ford Explorer, was travelling south. The accident occurred about 6 p.m. when, according to police reports, the Explorer apparently crossed the center line and hit the 2007 Chevrolet.

First responders from the Hillside Fire Department, the Rhinebeck Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics all responded to the accident. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Explorer was transported to Westchester Medical Center with what were described as serious injuries. The road was closed for several hours in both directions. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The sudden losses of loved ones in unexpected motor vehicle accidents are terrible pains to have to bear. When the accident occurs during the holiday season, it is even harder. While a grieving family in New York may not be thinking of legal options at such a hard time, a civil suit against the party deemed responsible for the accident can provide some compensation for their loss. While nothing can bring the loved one back, a successfully litigated civil suit can provide compensation for medical costs, final costs and other verifiable losses.
